Tasa 790 012 is the fee the Policía Nacional (National Police) charges for a NIE, a TIE card and other immigration documents. In 2026, it costs 9,84 euros for a NIE, 16,08 euros for a first TIE and 19,30 euros for a renewal. Fill in the form on the Police website, print it and pay at a bank before your appointment.

What tasa 790 012 is

The tasa (fee) 790 012 is charged by the National Police for issuing documents and handling some immigration procedures. The official form is called modelo 790 código 012. The 052 fee is a different one: the Oficina de Extranjería (immigration office) charges it to process your residence authorisation. That is why many people pay both: 052 for the authorisation and 012 for the card.

When to pay

Pay before your appointment, because you hand in the receipt with your application. For a NIE, it goes with form EX-15 (see our NIE guide). For a TIE, you take it with form EX-17 to your toma de huellas (fingerprint appointment), explained in our TIE guide. The “fingerprint fee” people search for is this card fee: 16,08 euros for a first TIE and 19,30 euros for a renewal. You apply for the TIE in person, with a cita previa (appointment), within one month of entering Spain or receiving your authorisation.

What to bring to your appointment

Bring the original documents.

  • The tasa 012 receipt, already paid.
  • The form for your procedure: EX-15 for a NIE or EX-17 for a TIE.
  • Your passport or another identity document.
  • For a TIE, also a recent colour photo on a white background, passport size.

How to fill in and pay tasa 790 012

  1. Open the official form. Go to the National Police website and click “Rellenar formulario y descargar” (fill in the form and download). There is no blank PDF: the form is generated with your details and the procedure you choose.

  2. Enter your details. The identity field accepts your NIF, NIE, passport or travel document, so you don't need a NIE to pay the NIE fee. Add your address too.
  3. Choose your procedure. The amount appears automatically. There is no item called toma de huellas: choose the TIE for your case (first grant, renewal, long-term residence or family member).
  4. Print and pay. Choose cash (“En efectivo”) or a charge to your bank account (“E.C. Adeudo en cuenta”, you enter your IBAN on the form). Download and print the form, then pay at an entidad colaboradora (a bank authorised to collect the fee). Keep the receipt for your appointment.

Common problems and how to fix them

You paid 052 instead of 012

The 052 fee doesn't cover your National Police appointment. You need the 012 receipt with the procedure you are applying for.

Not sure which TIE to choose

Your first card after the visa or initial authorisation is “primera concesión” (first grant). If you have renewed your authorisation, choose “renovación” (renewal). If you have long-term residence, choose “larga duración” (long-term). Your NIE itself is never renewed: it is the card that expires. See how to renew your TIE.

The bank won't accept payment

Some bank branches won't serve people who aren't customers. Try another authorised bank, or choose the account-charge option and pay from your own account.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay tasa 790 012 online?

The Police website only lets you fill in and download the form. Unlike the 052 fee, there is no payment with a digital certificate or Cl@ve. You pay at an authorised bank, in cash or charged to your account. The printed form has a barcode: ask your bank whether you can pay it at its ATM or through online banking.

Do I also have to pay the 052 fee?

If you apply for an authorisation through the Immigration Office, yes. The 052 fee is for the authorisation, and the 012 fee is for the card. A NIE applied for separately and an EU registration certificate only need the 012 fee.

How long does it take to get a NIE?

The Police must decide within five days of the application being entered in the official register. If there's no reply within that time, the application is treated as refused.

Is tasa 790 012 a Guardia Civil fee?

No. Code 012 belongs to the National Police (Dirección General de la Policía). For a NIE or TIE, always use the National Police form.
