Since 16 April, if your regularisation application is incomplete, you have at most 15 days to fix it. Otherwise it may be closed.

If you applied for Spain's extraordinary regularisation and something is missing, the immigration office (Extranjería) will send you a notice asking for it (a requerimiento). You get the deadline stated in that notice, and it is never more than 15 days. This rule has applied since 16 April 2026, according to the BOE, Spain's official gazette.
Do you always get 15 days?
No. Fifteen days is the maximum, not a fixed period. Your notice may give you less time, so check the date it shows.
What if you miss the deadline?
If you don't send what is missing, Extranjería treats you as having dropped your application (desistimiento). Then it closes your file. This is not automatic: the closure follows that decision.
Does this apply to you?
Yes, if you have an open extraordinary regularisation application. This includes people who applied for asylum in Spain before 1 January 2026 and are now applying for this residence permit.
What should you do now?
- Check your notifications and application status often. Our guide to checking your regularisation status shows you how.
- If you get a requerimiento, write down the deadline that day and start gathering the papers they ask for.
- To send them, follow our guide on adding documents to your extranjería file.
- If your application has already been closed, read what to do after a refusal or a closed case.
