If you work remotely and move to Extremadura, you could get 8.000 or 10.000 euros for living there two years, and up to 5.000 more for a third year. For now this is only a draft decree, according to SEXPE, the regional employment service: you can't apply yet.

Who can apply

The grant is for digital nomads: people who work at a distance using only a computer, the internet and phone. It doesn't matter whether you come from elsewhere in Spain or from abroad. You must:

  • Have lived outside Extremadura for the 18 months before you register there. The old rule was six months.
  • Already be on the local register in an Extremadura town (the padrón) when you apply. Our empadronamiento guide explains how.
  • Move your tax address (domicilio fiscal) to your new home in Extremadura and pay your income tax (IRPF) there.

How much could you get

There are two grants. The first is for settling in and staying registered for 24 months. The second is for staying 12 more months straight after.

  • If you are under 30, a woman, or you register in a town with fewer than 5.000 people: 10.000 euros for the first and 5.000 for the second.
  • Everyone else: 8.000 euros for the first and 4.000 for the second.

When will you be able to apply

Applications will be open for one year from the day after the decree appears in the regional gazette (DOE). No date has been set. Within that year:

  • First grant: you have three months from the day you register on the padrón.
  • If you registered between 8 October 2025 and publication day, you get three months from the day after publication.
  • Second grant: three months from the end of your 24 months. If you finished them before applications open, you also get three months from publication.
