Your postcode only sorts the office list when you book for unemployment benefit; it does not tie you to one office.

What SEPE said
SEPE has repeated it in its replies on X (@empleo_SEPE), most recently on 15 October 2026: «Te podrán atender en cualquier oficina de tu provincia» (any office in your province can serve you). On 10 September: «no hay una oficina concreta que te corresponda», 'there is no specific office assigned to you'. With an appointment, any office in your province can serve you.
El sistema 'distrito único' permite poder acceder a cualquier cita disponible dentro de tu provincia y que no se limiten las citas solo a la oficina más cercana a tu domicilio. Cualquier oficina dentro de tu provincia es tu oficina.
The «single district» system lets you take any available appointment within your province, not only at the office closest to your home. Any office in your province is your office.
This is not a change: SEPE is explaining how appointments already work. It calls the system distrito único (single district), which according to its reply of 3 July «permite poder acceder a cualquier cita disponible dentro de tu provincia»: it lets you take any available appointment within your province.
What your postcode does
When you book on the SEPE e-office (sede electrónica), the postcode of your home address only sorts the list: nearby offices come first, each with its first free slot. You can also book on 91 926 79 70. The appointment is free, and only the person whose name and DNI or NIE match the booking will be seen.
If there is no slot at the office that suits you, SEPE said on 3 July that «cada día se abren citas nuevas» (new appointments open every day), so you can keep trying. The steps are in the guide on how to book a SEPE appointment.
The limits
- Your province only. Your file is handled by the Dirección Provincial (provincial office) of your province, so an office in another province will not do. The offices in each province are listed in the directory of SEPE offices.
- SEPE offices only, for unemployment benefits and subsidies. The jobseeker registration (demanda de empleo) is done at your region's employment service (SOC, SAE, Lanbide, LABORA...), where the office does depend on your address. In Ceuta and Melilla SEPE also handles the registration.

No appointment needed to claim
The online pre-application (presolicitud) is as valid as a claim made at an office, SEPE replied on X on 22 July. See the SEPE pre-application form guide.
